Buccal Fat Removal at Pacifica Cosmetic Surgery Center

At Pacifica Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Hendricks and the team believe that plastic surgery should be subtle and natural, not obvious and stark. With that in mind, they strive to achieve beautifully natural results that enhance and add vibrancy without looking overdone. Buccal fat removal offers impressive results with the precise skill of Dr. Hendricks.

What is Buccal Fat Removal?

The buccal fat removal procedure works to slim the face and add definition to the jawline and cheekbones by removing a small fat pocket from inside the cheeks called the buccal fat pad.

This pad varies in size from person to person and can sometimes cause the cheeks to appear very large or overly full. It is removed by making a small incision inside the cheek via the mouth so there is no external scarring. This fat is a permanent part of the cheek and is different from subcutaneous fat, which can come and go with weight fluctuations.

Benefits of Buccal Fat Removal

Full cheeks can be part of a striking appearance, but if it’s not the look you’re going for or you don’t feel your cheeks are fitting for your overall body type, they can lower your confidence and make you feel like you’re not totally satisfied with your face. With buccal fat removal, you can look in the mirror every day and get excited about slender, defined cheeks and jawline. Other benefits include:

  • V-shaped lines
  • Slim cheek profile
  • Minimally invasive
  • Low downtime procedure
  • Non-surgical
  • No general anesthesia
  • In-office treatment

Buccal Fat Removal Candidates

Good candidates for buccal fat removal are generally healthy and close to their goal weight. In addition, those in their 20s to 40s are usually ideal because their face will be fully developed, and they are not yet approaching sunkenness due to age.

Consultation and Preparation

During your consultation for buccal fat removal Newport Beach plastic surgeon, Dr. Hendricks, will fully assess your facial structure and proportions to see if you are a good candidate for buccal fat removal. If we together decide that this procedure is a good fit, we will provide you with detailed preparation instructions and let you know what to expect during and after the procedure.

Procedure

At your appointment, we will ensure you are comfortable in one of our modern treatment rooms. First, you will receive local anesthesia inside the cheek via injection.

Once you are fully numb, an incision will be made, and all or part of your buccal fat pad will be delicately removed for optimal results without overcorrection. The incisions will then be closed with dissolvable sutures. Typically the procedure takes about one hour.

Results, Recovery, and Aftercare

While incisions will likely heal in less than a week, you may have some residual swelling for up to three weeks. Optimal results are typically seen at about two to four months.
